Hey Greg,
Ask away. If it’s a technical question, Remi’s your man.

I guess this may be for Remi then – I’m thinking about do a podcast of my own in the neat future…I’m looking for some advise on microphones that are on the lower range of the price scale…looking for a little more advise before leaping in….
Thanks much and looking forward to more durham 3 goodness

We use Audio Technica AT-2020’s, but Remi may have some other suggestions.

Hey Greg,
What do you mean by ‘lower-range’? Under-$50? Under-$100? Under-$200? Under-$1500? Like all things audio, there’s a huge range of stuff in each of those categories.
If you’re looking for super-cheap, I’d consider picking up one of Squid Audio’s little microphones, especially if you’re podcasting by yourself. These, of course, require you to have some sort of microphone in (but many computers do). The unidirectional mono microphone should do you. Clip it on your lapel with the mic pointing towards your mouth and you’ll be golden.
If you need a USB microphone, a headset mic should be fine. Matt Haughey of Metafilter fame likes the Logitech USB headset.
